During the dry season, Carmine bee-eaters nest in colonies along the banks of the Luangwa River in Zambia. They build their nests where the crocodile-filled waters of the river flow up against the riverbank so that they are less accessible to predators. For this shot, I used a slow shutter-speed and panned with the flight of the birds. I returned to the site many times before the conditions were right for me to capture the birds with the early morning light illuminating their vibrant plumage.
