Domestic dogs can transmit rabies and other diseases to the Ethiopian wolves. Once a wolf is infected the entire pack can be wiped out and the region’s wolf population decimated. Nomadic herders need the dogs to help protect their livestock from leopards and hyenas. These herders are increasingly encroaching on the wolves’ habitat so finding a way to counteract the disease threat has never been more pressing. Bale Mountains, Ethiopia.
