Hyena Lightning

I have wanted to take a shot of a spectacular African storm with an animal in the foreground for a long time! However, lining up a wild animal with a momentary flash of lightning in pitch-darkness was proving to be a considerable challenge! I spent several nights chasing storms in Liuwa Plain and I was eventually rewarded with this stroke of good luck. I couldn’t have asked for a more spectacular bolt of lightning. I lined up the hyena with the lightning storm and then set the camera to take back-to-back long exposures so that it would capture any lightning strikes that occurred.
