I was in Liuwa Plain National Park in Zambia where hyenas vastly outnumber the other predators and assume the apex role. I was after a range of images that would show hyenas in a different light. In particular, I aimed to capture them at night, when they are truly in their element.
For this shot, I was aiming to create a moonlit effect as the hyena skulked around me. I backlit the hyena with a low-powered remote flash which just picked-out the outline of the animal. It was very dark so I had to manually focus my camera by the light of a dim head-torch.
