An eyelash pit viper hunting for frogs and birds amongst the branches. I came across this beautiful snake deep in the rainforest of Costa Rica. As it was moving through the branches, I positioned myself in front of it and waited for it to approach. I handheld my camera but was careful to keep my fingers out of striking range. The rainforest was very dark so I used a speedlite flash pointing through a Lastolite Softbox to illuminate the snake. The snake adopted this position naturally; it was not goaded, repositioned or touched in any way.
